When and How Did You Meet
We met in June of 2014 at a wedding that we were the best man/ bridesmaid in. I was living in Philadelphia and he is from Punxsutawney so our paths had never crossed before. We were sitting at rehearsal dinner and I asked him, at the time a guy I didn’t know, if he wanted to finish my beer and he did. From there we very slowly started talking just to get to know each other, but we both had relationships and very, very different lives. Treading lightly happened for a long time, but we both knew that the risk of leaving our comfort zones in our current lives was worth it to be together.
Tell Us About the Proposal
My fiancé was born & raised in Punxsutawney, PA on a dairy farm, Londondale Farm. He works a full time (60+ hours) job and works on the farm after work & on the weekends, so to say that he is a hard working farm boy is an understatement. Anyway, we went to Mexico on a vacation together; his first time ever out of the country. I never thought of him as the romantic type, so the way he proposed was a complete surprise. He knows how much photographing memories means to me, so he went to the lobby of the hotel & planned a secret proposal for the photographer to set me up so he could get down on one knee and ask me to marry him on the beach at the resort; Gran Porto Resort in Playa Del Carmen. (I thought that he was going down just to get us coffees.) I knew that we were getting pictures, because I wanted nice ones for our home, but I never in a million years thought that he would coordinate such a surprise! I didn’t even know that he had a ring, because he was always working, on the farm with me, or with me so him finding time was even a surprise!
Tell Us About the Look / Theme / Style
Our wedding is on the hilltop of his family’s dairy farm and the reception is in front of one of their cornfields. I am a city girl so I incorporated my favorite “beachy” colors of coral and turquoise into a “country feel” wedding with mason jar & straw bail decorations.
What Inspired the Vision
My vision was inspired by the fact that I wanted to have a destination wedding in the Caribbean, but my fiancés family cannot leave the dairy farm unattended for that long, so I came up with a way to incorporate my “dream” wedding with Justin’s homegrown roots. I chose my destination beach wedding colors and put a country/farm theme of mason jars and straw bails together.
What Made Your Wedding Unique
My wedding is unique, because of how different Justin and I truly are. A girl that came here from Philadelphia marrying a man raised on a dairy farm in Punxsutawney made planning a bit challenging. I got custom corn-hole boards made for the guests to enjoy between the ceremony and reception and will have both beachy drinks and country drinks at the bar. People still can’t believe that we crossed paths and are getting married in 30 days.
What Moment Do You Recall the Most
The moment I recall the most is having my first dance with Justin. We do not get to spend very much quality alone time with each other without passing out on the couch from exhaustion, so just being able to hold hands and look into each others eyes to one of our favorite songs together was a breath of fresh air for both of us.
Anything Else That Deserves to Be Told
The special part about this wedding is how much Justin deserves to have a day all about him and the woman he loves. As much as weddings are hyped up to be the bride’s dream wedding, Justin truly deserves to have a day focused around him and the woman he chose to spend the rest of his life with. We just built our home from scratch on a piece of land that we subdivided off of the farm so we can raise our family on the farm that he grew up on, so our stress level while planning a wedding at the same time was through the roof. This wedding will truly be a picture of the reality of fate and true love and commitment between two people.
