When and How Did You Meet
In perfect fashion, we met at a halloween party dressed as Indiana Jones and The Green Arrow. Ben’s Green Arrow costume kinda sucked, but I gave him credit for trying. At first, he couldn’t even talk to me! After we broke the ice, we couldn’t stop talking, completely ignoring our mutual friend sitting across the table. Sorry, Dan! Now, every halloween we find the most badass/nerdy costume we can think of and go all out. In no particular order we’ve done Marty and Jennifer from Back to the future, Dr. Grant and Ellie from Jurassic Park, and Mulder and Scully from the X-Files. Its become a tradition and a bit of a celebration of how we met every year!
Tell Us About the Proposal
Anyone who knows Ben knows how big of a movie geek he is, and its very important you know this for the story to make sense. This night was far from perfect, in fact, we got into a bit of a fight right before! I was pulled up in front of our apartment and almost left to blow off some steam after our fight, but something told me to stay. I came upstairs and he had all the lights turned off with candles everywhere, and on the TV was a clip called “Hollywood Says I Love You” (check it out, its on youtube!). It was a compilation of all the most famous declarations of love in the history of movies . So while every famous line about love ever was being said in the background I looked for Ben in the bedroom and there he was, on one knee! It took me a few seconds to realize what was happening (I said “ARE YOU SURE” a lot) but in the end it was a DEFINITE YES.
Tell Us About the Look / Theme / Style
The theme seems to be leaning towards a floral vintage romantic feel. Lots of flowers, candles, and gold! I really wanted the place to shimmer.
What Inspired the Vision
In the beginning, I was inspired by my parents backyard and really wanted an outdoor wedding and reception with all the greens and lots of pink (think hydrangeas and roses). The worry of the weather (and the price!) got to me and I broke down and looked for a venue indoors. It took me almost a year to find the perfect venue, but I eventually found Kittanning Country Club and loved it from the moment I walked in. I used a mixture of inspiration from my parents backyard, my wedding dress, and the hall at Kittanning to decide how I wanted to decorate.
What Made Your Wedding Unique
Almost everything used to decorate (aside from the votives and candles and a few signs) was DIY. I wanted to save as much money as possible and DIY was the way! My mother made the flowers, I made my centerpiece stands (the tall gold ones) we even made the arbor we got married under. The only thing that was rented or bought were the tablecloths and chairs! Even my photo booth was DIY!
What Moment Do You Recall the Most
The one thing I had thought about since the day I realized we weren’t going to elope was the moment we get to see each other at the end of the isle. I was a nervous wreck until that point, and so was he! Seeing him was like a breath of fresh air.
My godmother/aunt suddenly passed away on Valentines day of 2015 and it was a huge shock and loss to the entire family. My new Mother in Law and Sister in Law did this amazing, incredible thing with a photo of my aunt and I. They put it in a tiny frame with ribbon to tie around my bouquet with a quote from Harry Potter on the back “The ones we love never truly leave us.” It was beautiful and perfect.
