“… the proposal… it was perfect!”
The Who, Where, and When…
Bride and Groom: Kari and Jeff Johnson
Wedding Date: 10/21/2017
Ceremony Location: Saint Vincent Basilica
Reception Location: Antonelli Event Center
When and How Did You Meet
While attending Saint Vincent College, we always knew of each other and occasionally crossed paths while hanging out with mutual friends.
2011-During the first week of Kari’s senior year (Jeff’s junior year), Jeff and Jari hit it off at the school’s Luau Dance….Jeff claims it was his smooth approach, Kari claims it was her smooth moves!
We started our relationship from that dance on…Kari graduated and returned to Pittsburgh, Jeff moved home to New Jersey for the summer and our long distance relationship began. After late-night phone calls and many Skype chats, our relationship grew deeper.
2012- Kari started her teaching career north of Pittsburgh, while Jeff returned to Saint Vincent to complete his Senior year of college. Driving back and forth from Latrobe to Hermitage, getting to know each others’ families, and learning more about each others’ future plans, we continued to build our relationship. Fast forward five/six years… We’ve each others’ best friends! We can finish each others’ sentences, make each other laugh, comfort each other in not-so-great times, and build each other up ( just to name a few).
Tell Us About the Proposal
2016- Jeff proposed to Kari on February 20 on Mount Washington, it was a complete surprise wit exceptional planning on Jeff’s part: Jeff selecting the perfect ring and hiding it for what he thought would be months (Summer of 2016), asking Kari’s parents ahead of time or what Kari learned to hear about as Jeff proposing to her Dad, and incorporating Katelyn (sister) to be there to take tons of photos of the proposal… it was perfect!
Tell Us About the Look / Theme / Style
Our wedding has a romantic and classic style with a few modern twists and a subtle travel theme.
Our colors are wine and gold.
What Inspired the Vision
We loved a fall wedding look, even though the bride is a teacher! We wanted warm hues to bring out our skin tones and flatter our bridal party. We also have big plans to travel in our married life, so we threw in a few touches of a travel theme like, our luggage tag escort cards/favors, our cake topper (world), guest map and card box (suitcases). But, we didn’t want to go overboard with the travel theme and make it like a themed birthday party!
What Made Your Wedding Unique
Our wedding is unique in a way that we didn’t feel a need to follow any set traditions. We kept our ceremony very traditional, as we feel it is the most important part of the day, but traditions like something borrowed, something blue, etc, and the garter toss were tossed out!
We added a few personal touches, like our “hash slider” of a live stream of photos using our hashtag that will project at the reception
What Moment Do You Recall the Most
Kari said: Seeing Jeff’s face waiting for me, at the end of the long Basilica aisle!
Jeff said: The priest announcing us as husband and wife, as well as our first dance.
