The Who, Where, and When…
Bride and Groom: Molli and Justin Nicholas
Wedding Date: 7/9/2016
Ceremony Location: Oak Lodge, Stahlstown, PA
Reception Location: Oak Lodge, Stahlstown, PA
When and How Did You Meet
We met in the summer of 2012. We were set up by a friend of the bride’s and the groom’s parents. We talked on Facebook first and then eventually met up in person at Nico’s Recovery Room in Bloomfield for a drink. The bride met the groom and about 15 of his closest friends the first time they met.
Tell Us About the Proposal
Justin proposed at Bushy Run Battlefield on a trail in the woods. It’s a trail we’ve always walked since we started dating and was on the part of the trail that has always been Molli’s favorite. There’s almost a hallway through the trees uphill and the tree roots make a natural staircase. It was November 17, 2015 and it was a complete surprise. We were walking and he just asked me to stop, told me he loved me, and then got down on one knee and asked.
Tell Us About the Look / Theme / Style
The style was definitely modern rustic because it was at Oak Lodge. The overall wedding colors were navy blue and gray with pops of bright pink with the flowers.
What Inspired the Vision
The amazing venue. We went to a friend’s wedding two years before our own and I knew within a few hours of being at their wedding that ours had to be there…when we eventually got engaged and married.
Our home decor was used quite a bit in the decorations for our wedding like lanterns and picture frames. And Pinterest. I got so many amazing ideas from Pinterest.
The location had a lot to do with it. Oak Lodge is a magical kind of location tucked away in the woods. The chapel is so quaint and seems almost like it’s out of a fairy tale. Everything being on site made the day more relaxed and seemed to add to our time we were able to spend celebrating.
What Made Your Wedding Unique
A lot of personal touches and details added to everything had a big impact. For example, the bride had pictures on her shoes of her Dad so he could walk her down the aisle since he passed away 6 years ago. We had a friend play the guitar and one of the bridesmaids sing a song during the ceremony , it was ‘The Only Exception’ by Paramore. Our centerpieces had little pots of grass in them because my husband owns a lawn and landscaping company. The bride is an artist/art teacher, so many handmade items like the cake topper, all the table numbers, the guestbook artwork, the invitations and programs, some real flowers and also handmade and hand painted paper flowers, a large drawn chalkboard menu, and more.
What Moment Do You Recall the Most
Saying our vows because it seemed like it was going to be such a surreal moment and it was. It was so beautiful and emotional but also a little nerve wracking as well. And I knew once they were said, we could finally relax and just celebrate!
Anything Else That Deserves to Be Told
The most special and probably unnoticed detail I mentioned above was having my dad ‘walk’ me down the aisle. I had little photos of my Dad in heart charms attached to the backs of my shoes since he passed away 6 years ago. I also had his class ring that was blue pinned into my dress.
The groomsmen got mini axes as their gift the night before the wedding and the bridesmaids and family bottles of wine with personalized labels and photos on the front of them. The moms received silver ‘knot’ bracelets as a thank you for helping us tie the knot.
